• About New Story Center

“The Great Work now…is to carry out the transition from a period of human devastation of the Earth to a period where humans would be present to the planet in a mutually beneficial manner.”
    --Thomas Berry

    Our Big Why

We believe that all creation is connected and sacred.

We dream of a new possibility for the future--an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on Planet Earth.*

    What We Do

Give me a lever long enough and fulcrum on which to place it and I can move the world. --Archimedes

Our Great Work is to help inspire and foster a new world view that can bring about a mutually beneficial human-earth relationship.

We focus on three critical levers:
    (1) Permaculture-- integrating the human into natural energies and systems
    (2) A New Story -- helping create and live a new dream
    (3) New Economy -- identifying ways to get human needs met without destroying Earth or People

    Across three dimensions:
    (1) Personal
    (2) Community
    (3) Planetary

    Who We Serve

    We serve three constituencies:

    (1) The community in which we live (Lake County). We believe that this place is a microcosm for the broader world problems and opportunities (see description below).

    (2) Change makers. We share tools and strategies for individuals and groups engaging in community and cultural transformation--so they can activate their own communities.

    (3) Youth. We offer a new way of seeing problems can help humanity engage in difficult and sometimes overwhelming work with a sense of balance, hope and purpose.

    How: Permaculture-Based Learning

    Where virtual meets actual.

Our center is both a virtual and a physical place to share applied permaculture (Earth Wisdom).

We foster the principles and practices of permaculture as applied to transforming human systems and structures. We address approaches to seemingly intractable human-caused social and ecological problems, human communities, and the human spirit, with the intention that participants will adopt these tools and strategies to create a positive future for themselves and those around them.

    (1) Projects and Experiences

Strategic on-site applied Permaculture-inspired projects and experiments and new story experiences that address root cultural and ecological challenges in the microcosm
--Onsite At Dancing TreePeople Farm in Upper Lake
    --At Partner Locations and
--in cooperation with our Lake County Community

    (2) Online Tools and Experiences

We offer opportunities to join the above in real time or through virtual involvement.

We offer a portal where we share the permaculture projects and new story experiences (along with paradigm-shifting information and education) with the wider world. Here we also share tools, strategies and curriculum with change makers.

Tools for leaders and change makers to address political polarization and align their livelihood with their Great Work.

    (3) Workshops

We are trained facilitators in "Awakening the Dreamer" by the Pachamama Alliance and offer these and other workshops to "provide an experience that inspires participants to stand powerfully for and be in action to create a new possibility for the future--an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on this planet."*
